RE: External hard drives

I was told by a computer guru that I should use cd's or dvd's to to my backups. He said the hard drives are still mechanical and subject to failure just like the ones in your computer. So, I use cd's. True, but what's the change that both the internal drive and the external one both fail at the same time?I don't know, but is your data worth the gamble? I understand CDs and DVDs don't last forever either, and are subject to being scratched and otherwise damaged. Then again, critical backups should be off-site so a fire doesn't get both your computer and backup. That is true. And, it is one of the reasons they need to be rotated so you are not using the same one over and over.

RE: I'll never learn my lesson

Just out of curiosity, those who won't buy from a store with restrictive return policies or a restocking fee, why? Is it because of a fear that the product won't work and you may need to return it or is it based on keeping the option open to return the merchandise later because you really didn't like it? Is it a negative if you purchased a TV from Best Buy, took it home and watched it for awhile, and then decided to return it although it performed as advertised? How do people feel about buying a product that was used by a previous consumer, worked well, but they didn't like it? Is it still worth a new price or should it be substantially discounted because it was used? Does taking it out of the original container and trying it constitute use, or should returns be limited to the original undisturbed packaging and or defective merchandise? Why take a chance when there are other places to buy without the usury restocking fee. There are many reasons to return an item and not all are as dishonest as you seem to want to make it. No, I'll go elsewhere where they have a more liberal return policy if I need it.

RE: They still do what?!

Smacking a kid should not ever be necessary. However, if it is necessary it should be used as a very last resort. That seems to be with students that come from families that never discipline their children. The truly hard cases sometimes only respond to pain.

RE: I'll never learn my lesson

15% restocking fee at Best Buy. I won't shop there anymore because of that. Would you rather they raise prices across the board then instead? With technology and prices changing rapidly, they must take action to reduce their loss. No, I would rather shop elsewhere where the prices are the same or lower and not have a usury restocking fee. I've bought quite a bit online also, but never anything large/big-ticket. Who pays the shipping if you had a problem with it and had to send it back?I do a small percentage of my shopping on-line. I try to support the locals first, then it is a toss-up whether I go to the big box stores or buy on-line.

RE: Buyer Beware!

I heard on the television a few weeks ago how different companies are beginning to re-package their merchandise. That has been going on for years. The first one I noticed was coffee.

RE: Would you want to be a teacher?!?!?

All these sort of rules mean is that a teacher can no longer have the "joy" of failing a student. I have never experienced any joy when it was necessary to fail one of my students. These rules are ridiculous but not because it takes away the "joy" of failing a student.

RE: Olympic Double Trap Shooting

No semi-automatics out there, only over/under shotguns are being used that I saw. I might make one other small correction. I did not see one weapon out there, only sporting firearms. They aren't weapons any more than a car is. Missing often? Any idea how fast those targets are moving? If it were easy, I might be out there.
